Bennett traded, Brees coming along Wednesday, Aug 2 2006

HB Michael Bennett has been traded to the KC Chiefs for an undisclosed draft pick. Bennett has looked impressive in camp this season and with the number of suitors he had in the trade market, I would hope that the Saints received a worthwhile pick in return. I’m more than a little surprised that they did not pursue a defensive player in the deal, but can’t really comment on this too much until more details come out. Drew Brees has been looking better in recent days. He is throwing the ball with more zip and confidence than earlier in camp. Unknown WR Jamal Jones has been consistently impressive throughout camp and is making a serious push for a roster spot. He’s a bit undersized at 5′11″, but his motor never stops. It’ll be an uphill climb due to the number of players competing for a limited number of WR slots, but Jones may find his niche as a special teamer. The national spotlight has been unrelentingly on Bush and a few muffed punts yesterday made news around the country. Fans shouldn’t read too much into it, as he’s handled the media pressure well for a rookie. He looked crisp athletically, but it’s still far too early to make any comments about his performance. Safety continues to be a competitive position, with newcomers Omar Stoutmire, Bryan Scott, and rookie Roman Harper battling veteran Jay Bellamy for the starting spots. No one has pulled away to an extend that there is a clear cut front runner, but Scott has looked solid and Harper has shown plenty of talent.

When I heard the Chiefs, I was hoping Kyle Turley was coming back. The right side of that OL scares me right now, Stinkbomb, Nesbit, Evans, Archibald, perhaps even Strief, etc., someone better step up.
In the 11-on-11, Bush slipped and Grant landed on top of him hard, he popped up and ran to the endzone. Then a few plays later, a G and DT collided and hit Bush in the knee and flipped him, a couple of coaches ran in, but Bush popped up and ran to the endzone. The injury had it’s opportunity, but it was DENIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
This morning, the only 2 returners in the punting drills were A-Mac and Bush………….

I like the A Mac nickname. Todd do you think he will be the number one punt returner?

I’ve no idea. The Beerman looks to be out. He still hasn’t participated in any of the 6 practices I’ve attended. Stallworth and Henderson were the other two recieving punts on Sunday morning but not this morning. Kenny Wilkerson just said that tomorrow A-Mac would get reps at WR…….

I’m worried about Brees and his ‘pitching rotation’ of reps out there. If he heats that sucker up, will he tear it again?
It’s really not that far off that he’ll have to heat it up to get the ball to our wideouts … you know it would be foolish to use Horn, StallPepper and Henderson (who’s probably cut bait right now) as dump options.
This kid Haas has lived up to his hype about his hands, but, come on, we need some speed out of this sucker!
Still waiting on reports (or a visual confirmation) for Michael Lewis, Deuce and my favorite GawgiaDawg, Charles Grant. From what I’ve heard around da tent, BeerMan may be gone (a shame for an All-Pro), Deuce is coming around nicely and Grant is feeling no ill-effects after a nagging toe injury. I just hope he’s fast enough to keep those QBs out of the pocket and on the ground!

Of the 6 practices I’ve been to, Lewis has yet to dress. I think he’s out.

Who was this kid Bobby Iwuchukwu? He’s been waived!
